WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Mychal Bell is still the only one of the Jena 6 to be tried.  There is no news on the other 5.


Update: It's official that Mychal Bell is not in the detention center any longer and reportedly is staying in a foster home and attending Carroll High School in Monroe, Louisiana.  The Barker's have filed a civil suit.  Below is info I could find....

Attorneys for four of the defendants had asked 9th Judicial District Judge Thomas Yeager to recuse Judge J.P. Mauffrey Jr.

They said Mauffrey "had made numerous statements on numerous occasions" indicating he had already decided on a defendant's guilt and punishment.

Mychal Bell can't play Football

Bell, one of the “Jena Six” defendants accused of beating a fellow Jena High School student in December 2006 and the only one to be tried so far, has been attending classes at Carroll since January as part of his plea agreement. Carroll football coach Jackie Hamilton, who testified on behalf of Bell saying it “would only be fair” that he could continue “his academic and athletic career,” declined to comment after the meeting.

Other News - August 28, 2008

An attorney for Mychal Bell claims Bell’s father attacked her on Wednesday after a hearing before the Louisiana High School Athletic Association.

Carol Powell Lexing, an indigent defense attorney, filed a report with Baton Rouge police stating Marcus Jones spat in her face and pushed her down in an elevator after the LHSAA denied Bell an extra year of athletic eligibility.
